Georgia Beats Georgia Tech 79-72

Stegeman Coliseum

It’s been a rough 1st half of the season for the Georgia Bulldogs Basketball program. First, Mike Mercer and Takais Brown were dismissed from the team. Then Rashaad Singleton quit citing a lack of playing time. But that wasn’t enough to help the visiting Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, who fell to the Bulldogs 79-72 on Wednesday.

Guard Billy Humphrey led the Dawgs with 23 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Sundiata Gaines added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Corey Butler came off the bench to score 11 points. The Bulldogs have now won 6 of the past 9 games against Tech, and have won 12-straight in Stegeman Coliseum.

The victory over Georgia Tech completed an up and down non-conference schedule for Georgia. The Bulldogs defeated Wake Forest, but lost games at Wisconsin and Gonzaga. At the Rainbow Classic in Hawaii, UGA inexplicably lost to East Tennessee State and Tulane.

Georgia opens SEC play on Saturday at Mississippi State, followed by home games against Alabama and Arkansas.
