Marcus Thornton Narrows List to Georgia and Three Others

Marcus ThorntonPower forward Marcus Thornton of Atlanta, Georgia has narrowed his list of schools to four, including Georgia, UGASports.com is reporting. He signed with Clemson in the Fall of 2009, but was released from his scholarship after head coach Oliver Purnell left for DePaul.

Thornton (6-7, 215) played for Westlake High School. As a senior, he averaged 24 points, 12 rebounds, 3.5 blocked shots, 3 assists and 1.5 steals. He was named Mr. Basketball in Georgia by the Atlanta TipOff Club and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Thornton also earned Parade Magazine All-American and ESPN RISE All-American honors.

The other three schools on Thornton’s list are Alabama, Georgia Tech and Texas. Thornton plans to make his announcement prior to graduating from high school on May 21. The Spring signing period ends on Wednesday, May 19.

Earlier this week, Mark Fox and the Bulldogs lost out on small forward/wing Dwayne Polee from Los Angeles, California. Polee selected St. John’s over Georgia, Oregon and UNLV.
