5-star recruit Tony Parker set to announce on Monday

SicEmDawgs.com

Five-star basketball recruit Tony Parker is set to make his official announcement on Monday, April 23.

Parker will choose between Duke, Georgia, Kansas, Ohio State and UCLA. However, most people believe Parker is 50-50 between Georgia and UCLA.

If Mark Fox can sign Tony Parker, it would be a shot in the arm to the Georgia basketball program. Fox has proven he can coach in the SEC, he just needs to sign the top players in the state. Tony Parker fits that mold perfectly.

The 6-9, 250-pound power forward played for Miller Grove High School in Lithonia, Georgia and the Georgia Stars on the AAU circuit. He led Miller Grove to four state titles and was selected to the 2012 McDonald’s All-American team. In his senior season, he averaged 17.4 points and 11 rebounds per game.

Rivals.com rates Parker as a 5-star recruit, the no. 5 center and 33rd overall in the country. Scout.com also rates him 5-stars and the no. 9 center in the country.

Parker was previously scheduled to make his announcement today, but it was pushed back to Monday.

“Tony and his family just wanted a little more time,” Miller Grove coach Sharman White said. “That way, they will get the weekend to hammer it out.”

The Hoop Dawgs signed three 2011-12 recruits last Fall: shooting guard Kenny Gaines, point guard Charles Mann and small forward Brandon Morris. All three are rated 3-stars by the various recruiting services.

Update: Tony Parker announced that he will sign with UCLA over Georgia.
