Seven Bulldogs earn football scholarships

SicEmDawgs.com

Georgia BulldogsSeven Georgia Bulldog walk-on football players have earned scholarships, head coach Mark Richt announced on Sunday.

The seven are in addition to snapper Ty Frix and linebacker Reuben Faloughi, who were both awarded scholarships in 2010. That means the Bulldogs now have a total of nine walk-ons are on scholarship.

Junior Defensive back Blake Sailors and junior tailback Brandon Harton, both of whom were awarded scholarships last year, has their scholarships renewed for the 2012 season.

Bulldogs receiving scholarships for the first time are junior defensive back Luis Capella, redshirt freshman fullback Merritt Hall, junior split end Rhett McGowan, redshirt sophomore defensive back Connor Norman and redshirt sophomore linebacker Kosta Vavlas.

Georgia has a dearth of open scholarships since they only have 69 recruited players on the roster. The NCAA allows 85 on scholarship per season, which means the Dawgs are 16 below the limit.

In order to make up for those numbers, the Bulldogs hope to sign a huge recruiting class in 2013. The Bulldogs already have 24 commitments and could possibly sign as many as 33.
