Georgia Bulldogs Signing Day 2013 Updates & Comment Thread

By Kevin Kelley - Wed, Feb 6, 2013

Signing Day 2013Wednesday, February 6 is National Signing Day 2013. The Georgia Bulldogs are once again expected to sign a Top 10 class.

Mark Richt and the Georgia Bulldogs currently have 30 verbal commitments. Of those 30 recruits, 13 are already enrolled at UGA. Rivals.com currently ranks Georgia’s 2013 class 10th in the nation.

The Dawgs are hoping to land a few of their big-time uncommitted targets:

  • Alvin KamaraRB (Norcross, GA) – Signed with Alabama.
  • Davin Bellamy – DE (Chamblee, GA) – Signed with UGA!
  • George AdeosunOT (Alpharetta, GA) – Signed with Virginia.
  • Laremy TunsilOT (Lake City, FL) Signed with Ole Miss.
  • Montravius AdamsDT (Vienna, GA) Signed with Auburn.

Of those four, Montravius Adams and Davin Bellamy are the two most likely to sign with the Dawgs. Laremy Tunsil is reportedly a “done deal” to Ole Miss, while Alvin Kamara is said to be leaning towards the Crimson Tide.

Georgia was late offering offensive tackle George Adeosun (6-6, 300), but he is definitely considering the Bulldogs. Adeosun reportedly favors Virginia with Oklahoma close behind.

As we do each year, Sicemdawgs.com will post the 2013 Georgia Bulldog signees as they come in. We will also update this post throughout the day (see “Live Signing Day Updates” below). Feel free to join the signing day discussion in the comments section at the bottom.

12:30 p.m. – ESPN is reporting that UGA may have a surprise signee coming. Could it be Alvin Kamara? Other than him, don’t know of any other targets unless it’s a Plan C recruit. Update: Looks like it’s 4-star DT Toby Johnson. Hopefully the Dawgs can land him, but he may not sign today.

1:50 p.m. – Georgia has received the LOI from Davin Bellamy (DE, 6-5, 235, Chamblee, GA)

4:00 p.m. – Running back Alvin Kamara of Norcross, GA has signed with Alabama. Looks like Georgia’s class is complete at 32, unless Toby Johnson signs.

This is becoming a major disappointment. I don’t understand how we can continually go down to the wire with some of these major players and not land them. We are doing ok as we always do but to become one of the elite we need to begin winning more elite players. I recognize that not all elite HS players make it big time but I would rather sign more of them than 3 stars.

Another thing. Grantham needs to decide whether he is a Dog or not a Dog. If want to recruit the best players they need to know who they are playing for. Grantham, it is too late now. But if you are staying you should have said so. If you are leaving, you picked a lousy time. To be honest, your defence did not play up to the standards of the personnel we had. That can be attributed to coaching. If you stay, you need to be on fire and make things happen.

    • gracedoc2 said...

You are exactly right. We all love Grantham as our D-Coord. Furthermore, his intensity is such that any big name would love to play for. That said… we are kidding ourselves if we think all the entertaining of leaving didn’t affect us. NOT ONCE publicly did Grantham say, “I’m a Dawg”, throughout these latest NFL name droppings; and even if he would have, it’s an every year deal. Price to pay for a program that has a wanted coach, but not many teenage studs are going to risk their college career, wondering if the guy that recruits them is going to be there next year. That may be why we see Ole Miss getting what they are getting, Auburn stealing a few this year (now that seem stable for at least the next few years), and stability on the entire staff is definitely Saban reigns supreme.

  8. Rob said...

One of the main reasons we don’t land more of them is because we don’t pay them (which I’m glad for). A friend is an NFL trainer – one of the pros he works with from who played in the SEC told him the only people who go to Georgia are the ones who already love Georgia or who love Coach Richt.

Even if they get probation later, it could effect these very guys with probation at a time they want to showcase talent for the NFL and will not be on TV or bowls, it is pay to play and these very green young men don’t realize it will come out, wake up guys don’t sell your future away.

You are not a “fan”. Here is the definition of fan…

A fan, sometimes also called aficionado or supporter, is a person who is enthusiastically devoted to something, such as a band, a sports team or entertainer. Collectively, fans of a particular thing or person constitute its fanbase or fandom. They may show their enthusiasm by being members of a fan club, holding fan conventions, creating fanzines, writing fan mail, or by promoting the object of their interest and attention.

Where do you fit in this description?

I agree with Fred, CMR is not the guy. I don’t get how Auburn with a 3-9 record in 2012 signed a better recruiting class than UGA! What is going on in Athens? We should be getting a top 5 recruiting class! I’m very disappointed! I have never been a fan of Grantham either, he isn’t that good of a coach and he didn’t help get the badly needed recruits we needed on defense. If I’m on the UGA offense, I’m pissed off at the coaching staff for not getting a decent defense! The UGA offense will be awesome in 2013, but the defense will give up 45 points per game, thus UGA will go 8-4! maybe 7-5? I’m ready for CMR to go, had enough of mediocre teams!

UGA has consistently had top tier talent under perform, hell even Steve Spurrier said that! And I agree! It goes back to CMR and his staff. They just are not getting it done. How is it that top tier players who grew up 30 min, an hour from Athens are going to Ole Miss, LSU, Alabama, S Carolina, Florida, Auburn? UGA is not getting it done! We should always pull in-state guys, or at least some of them. UGA is a laughing stock because of our consistent mediocre teams. The 2013 Dawgs will have a powerful offense, but the defense is hurting, and the coaches didn’t get it done on signing day, I’m very disappointed! Fed up with mediocre teams year after year after year after year! I know UGA went 12-2 last year, but that isn’t good enough with the players we have/had in 2012! We should have rolled over everyone and crushed ND in the Nat Champ. Sorry dudes, 2nd place isn’t ok anymore!

I love UGA with every cell in my body! Each of my red blood cells has Ugga on it! I am very critical of UGA because I want them to be the best, or at least be the best for 1 year and bring a crystal ball to Athens! We have had so many chances to do just that, but lack of motivation seems to rear it’s ugly head at precisely the wrong time, every year this happens. Anyone remember the 2007 team? I do, I remember a team that could have won the super bowl, and should have rolled over everyone on the way to the Nat Champ! That team had the talent and the experience to crush anyone in college football that year, but the coaching failed, therefore the team failed, therefore I was ready to string CMR behind my truck and drag his ass back to Tallahassee! This years recruiting class is ok, nothing special. Todd Grantham can go back and find the rock he crawled out from under too! I’m not impressed with him either! C’mon Man! We need to get fighting mad and make CMR pray less, and win more!

Gaping holes in defense this year. UGA has a powerhouse offense, but they will need to score often to compensate for the lack of experience and talent on defense. I’m highly disappointed if I’m A. Murray! Poor guy came back because he thought UGA would fill the holes on defense, didn’t happen. Matthew Stafford didn’t come back for his Sr season partly because he knew UGA’s defense would suck, and they did! What happened? How did Auburn at 3-9 get a better class than UGA at 12-2? How is freaking Ole Miss stealing 5 star players 30 min from Athens? How? Who? What? When? Ok, Greg McGarity, is this enough for you to say adios to CMR? I know, at 12-2, it’s not likely, but one can hope! It’s nothing personal against CMR, but he’s had 12 yrs to bring us a crystal ball, and the trophy case is still empty! I will not be satisfied until UGA wins a crystal ball, and that isn’t going to happen with CMR as our head coach. Sad but true!

In 2002, Uga, under CMR, could have went to the nat’l chmpnshp had it not been for 2 undefeated teams in front of them. Bama would not have went to the last 2 championships had those same circumstances occurred. 2007 we were wrongfully ousted from chmpnshp game when we clearly belonged there. In 2012 we were 5 yards or 10 seconds from going to the big game. So those of you who are saying Richt isnt the guy should slap themselves and look at the facts. Also, we dnt have glaring holes on defense. If you have multiple all american caliber players who leave, of course it will look that way . W have more than enough talent to be statistically better than last year. It just depends on how hard they work. We have a good class and we will be young but hungry . Some of you have to leave your mothers basement and stop worrying about 17-18 year olds

Dudes, Chill and be careful what you wish for. Getting rid of CMR would be a BIG mistake. Look at Tennessee, Miami, Arkansas, Auburn etc. I want to win a National Championship just as much as you guys, but I don’t wanna sell my soul to do it. Look at Auburn, it’s always been know as Cheatsville. Their NC is tarnished and we all know it. That is why Chitzik got fired! Too many 5 Stars that did not have the moral character needed to be there! Boise State had 0,1 & maybe a 2 star athletes on their team and they beat us. I agree, we’ve lost some BIG games and had some disappointing seasons, but we are one step away from becoming irrelevant if we make a coaching change. WHO DO WE GET? If it’s Peterson I’ll listen, but I do not want an unproven coach or coordinator… Please don’t say Kirby Smart, cause Saban runs the defense! Keep the faith, we will break thru soon. In fact, it’s gonna be next year. We will have the most prolific offense in the country… We may not be able to stop anybody, but who’s gonna be able to score with us? Bama, FLA, LSU? The answer is no! We will do just enough next year to win it all. Never have we had all the pieces on offense like we do this upcoming year. We sould run the Patriots hurry up offense and see what happens. Either stop complaining and pull for the Dawgs or go jump ship and be a bama bandwagon fan, I think they have enough room for a few more!

OK guys, we lost some of the top in state recruits, but still have a top ten class. In order to move up and pass ole miss in the recruiting rankings was simply sign a couple of 5 star players. When you can do that it shows the rankings are flawed. The major objective is to fill needs with the best players you can get and we filled needs with some decent players and did not cheat to do it. If we can mark Richy WHO would you suggest to replace him with, everyone give your choice and let us see who pops up!!!

We never have really been able to keep fences up around the state. Seems these kids are more interested in the NFL than tradition. Think about it, ever see NCAA merchandise on these kids? As for CMR, he may not have fully lived up to his potential with so many NFL prospects, but, I believe the faucet is being squelched little by little under his watch. I mean, look at the NFL talent Goff and Donnan had with losing seasons in the 90′s!!!! It is getting better so I just cant believe that fans think that everyone on staff is not committed to winning a title and neither do you (negative fans). What I find the hardest to swallow is the resentment of CMR and how fans can make all of these negative observations as if they have insider information when they probably haven’t even visited Athens in the last decade. My God, stay the course and hunker down!!!

Well it has been a couple hours since I ask for the mark Richt haters to offer someone who could replace him and I don’t see squat posted, come on if you hate him surely you have a coach in mind to step in and save the program. Since mark left fla state they have struggled on offense, it has declined every year, I would bet they would love to have him back, jimbo has been sweating a lot on the field.

Mark Richt leaving is not the answer. (Its even ridiculous to keep having that conversation). Recruiting however IS the answer. They really need to think through what they are doing, as they did in the “Dream Team” drive. No matter how that turned out, at least every Ga fan felt like we actually kept that talent we wanted from other schools. If we recruit well, we will win well. Saban is a good coach… but he is a GREAT recruiter… which folk are kidding themselves if they think that recruiting BY AND LARGE “don’t” carry over to the playing field. Of course it does… its those recruited who are playing.

Richt should just fire Grantham because he’s a distraction at this point. And if we have a chance to replace him w a stud, right now be the best chance to lure them. I’m tellin ya, IF he don’t leave now… No recruit is going to believe him in future. He’s a cancer at this point. And … Our D underachieved last year anyway

our recruiting in Georgia is not all the coaches fault it’s the parents. If you was raised up in Georgia regardless of how things went you wanted to be Georgia Bulldog player.A friend of mind received a scholarship from Oklahoma State University and later transferred to Georgia cause he said it was the right thing to do.Instate prospects need to see where they are from not where they think a coach can take them cause when it is all said and done how many players can you get on the field at 1 time in the same position?Coaching is all about money and as a former college player what money you get for that coach winning? Our only hope is to recruit and do more down south.
