Richt: Gator Bowl or Chick-fil-A Bowl for the Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia Bulldogs

The Georgia Bulldogs have finished the 2013 regular-season and will head to a bowl game for the 17th consecutive season.

Last night on his weekly radio show, head coach Mark Richt updated the Bulldog nation about their bowl possibilities.

“It looks like maybe the Gator Bowl or Chick-fil-A” Richt said.

Richt’s statement echoed what Anthony Dasher of UGASports.com reported on Monday after speaking with Gator Bowl CEO Rick Catlett.

Catlett indicated that a Georgia-Michigan match-up in the Gator would be “very, very appealing.” But the Chick-fil-A Bowl picks first, and that will ultimately determine which team falls where.

Texas A&M is also an attractive candidate for the Chick-fil-A Bowl because Johnny Manziel will likely be playing in his last college football game. Georgia is always an attractive option due to their location and ability to sell most or all of their allotment of 17,500 tickets.

If Georgia is selected to the Chick-fil-A Bowl, they would face a team from the ACC, which would likely be either Duke or Miami (FL). Possible opponents for the Dawgs in the Gator Bowl include Iowa, Michigan, and Minnesota.

The Chick-fil-A Bowl will be played on Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 8pm ET (ESPN), while the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl will be played on New Year’s Day at Noon ET (ESPN2).
