Bulldogs Enjoy Solid Spring Practice

Head coach Mark Richt was pleased with his Georgia Bulldogs’ performance during a two-hour, full-pads spring practice session on Thursday afternoon.

A large contingent of high school coaches viewed the workout as part of a two-day clinic being conducted by the Bulldogs’ coaching staff.

“I was really proud of everybody’s effort,” Richt said. “We have our (high school) coaches clinic going on. We have a bunch of coaches here wanting to see what we’re doing, and I think our players really did a good job of representing. I was really proud of the job they did…and of course we had perfect weather.”

The practice, the fifth overall and second in full pads this spring, was conducted under perfect spring conditions, with sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s. That was a welcome change to the blustery weather during Tuesday’s workout.

Senior linebacker Ramik Wilson, who led the Southeastern Conference in tackles last season, has been impressed with the effort and intensity on his side of the ball this spring.

“We need competition,” Wilson said. “It’s only going to make us better. (Coach Pruitt) is going to put the best 11 guys out there. Since Coach Pruitt has been here, the energy at practice has been there every day. It’s never been like that before since I’ve been here. It’s like a game experience out there every day, and that’s only going to make us better. We’re out there pushing for jobs and trying to compete.”

Georgia will practice again on Friday before the Bulldogs conduct their first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday. Wilson is looking forward to the competition during Saturday’s scrimmage.

“The scrimmage should be the same (as practice),” Wilson said. “We’re going to go out there with high intensity. Coach (Pruitt) is going to see who can tackle and who can make plays and who can execute.”

The Bulldogs are working toward their annual G-Day game on Saturday, April 12 at Sanford Stadium. G-Day is slated for 1 p.m., with gates opening at 11 a.m. Admission will be free.
