5-Star DT Trent Thompson to Announce Commitment Tonight

Trent Thompson, a five-star defensive tackle recruit, will announce his commitment tonight around 7pm ET.

Thompson, 6-foot-4 and 297-pounds, hails from Albany, Georgia. The Bulldogs have long been his leader with Auburn close behind in second.

“Georgia has been his leader since day one — he really feels comfortable on their campus,” Westover coach Octavia Jones told Michael Carvell of the AJC. “And he has a great relationship with the coaches at Georgia, as well as the coaches at Auburn. He has probably visited Auburn more times than Georgia, and he has spent a lot of time with that coaching staff, especially Coach Garner.

“You know, Alabama is Alabama. Any time recruits step foot on that campus they are going to impressed with what they see. They have top-notch facilities, and it’s the chance to play for a legend such as Coach Saban. That has to be intriguing for any kid.”

In the 247Sports Composite rankings, Thompson is listed as the No. 1 defensive tackle in the country and the No. 2 overall recruit.

Rivals.com also rates Trent Thompson as one of the top recruits in the country. They have him No. 1 at his position and third overall in the country.

It goes without saying that it will be huge if Thompson commits to the Dawgs tonight. Most experts think he will. In fact, 60 of the 60 insiders in the 247Sports Crystal Ball predict he will commit to UGA.

Georgia currently has 17 verbal commitments for 2015. The class is ranked 10th by 247Sports and 11th by Rivals.com.
