Bulldogs Hold Second Scrimmage of 2014 Preseason

The Georgia football team held their second scrimmage of 2014 preseason practice at Sanford Stadium on Friday night.

“Tonight started out a lot like the last scrimmage,” head coach Mark Richt said. “The offense came out and moved the ball down the field on an 11 or 12 play drive and scored a touchdown. There weren’t any big plays they just moved the ball. Hutson [Mason] hit [Chris] Conley for a touchdown. From there the execution deteriorated as the day went on.”

Senior Hutson Mason led all quarterbacks after completing 22-of-31 passes for 204 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Redshirt freshman Brice Ramsey was 13-of-17 for 187 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Freshman Jacob Park completed 11 of his 16 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown, while redshirt sophomore Faton Bauta went 10-for-17 with 152 yards.

Sony Michel led the running backs with 29 yards on four carries. He also caught three passes for 20 yards. Nick Chubb rushed for 30 yards on nine carries and had one TD. Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall each rushed four times for only 11 yards, while Brendan Douglas had nine carries for 19 yards.

“Defensively, we saw a couple of really nice picks,” Richt added. “[Freshman] Dominick Sanders had a pick-six. [Freshman] Rico [Johnson] had a beautiful interception on a ball that Brice [Ramsey] was trying to throw away and just didn’t throw it away enough. Rico leaped up and made a great catch to keep his feet in bounds. The offense won most of the third and shorts and the defense won most of the third and longs.”
