Former UGA Football Letterman Bob Taylor Passes Away

Former University of Georgia football standout Elton Robert “Bob” Taylor passed away Thursday, August 7, at his home in LaGrange, Ga. He was 70.

Among his Bulldog career highlights, Taylor was perhaps best known for scoring the winning touchdown to defeat fifth-ranked and defending national champion Alabama 18-17 in 1965, with the famous “Flea-Flicker” play. Before retirement, Bob was employed with Tenneco Company as a Motivational Speaker. Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Taylor (Brett) Stewart; grandson, Brock Stewart; siblings, Beth Taylor McDonald, Jo Taylor (Dan) Payne, Mal (Lita) Taylor, Flor Taylor, Hope (Debra) Taylor, and Martin (Carolyn) Taylor; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, Aug. 9 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in LaGrange with Pastor Hope Taylor officiating. The gathering of family and friends will be Saturday from 2-4 p.m. prior to the service time. Burial will follow in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery.
