ATHENS, Ga. – Ninth-ranked Georgia conducted a 90-minute workout Wednesday, its second session during a bye week.

Georgia coach Mark Richt said he has been pleased with the practices this week especially with an open date this Saturday.

“It’s a credit to the players and the coaches that they’ve kept it going and it shows good habits,” Richt said.

Earlier in the day, Georgia announced plans to file the necessary paperwork with the NCAA regarding the eligibility of tailback Todd Gurley. Richt said it would be exciting if Gurley is able to play in the next game, but at this point, he doesn’t know when Georgia will hear back from the NCAA.

“All I know is what you all know, and it would be wonderful to know to be able to prepare the team properly,” Richt said. “We’ll just go about our business and prepare like we’ve been doing. Hopefully, all will end well sooner than later.”

Richt added that Gurley has been working hard in practice to stay in shape and has been doing extra conditioning on his own. Also, he said that Gurley felt like a proud father watching how well freshman tailback Nick Chubb has been playing.

Chubb has started the last two games and gained 345 yards and scored three touchdowns. He earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors this past Monday. Chubb rushed 30 times for a career-high 202 yards and two touchdowns in Georgia’s recent win over Arkansas. Chubb is the first true freshman to reach 200 yards rushing in a game since Rodney Hampton in 1987.

Georgia (6-1, 4-1 SEC) will hold its final practice of the week on Thursday. The Bulldogs return to action Saturday, Nov. 1 in Jacksonville, Fla., against Florida (4-3, 2-3 SEC). Both teams have an open date this week. Kickoff for the annual tilt at EverBank Field will be at 3:30 p.m., and the contest will be broadcast nationally on CBS. Georgia has won the past three meetings with the Gators.
