Georgia baseball signee Justin Glover shows promise after performance in GHSA Playoffs

Georgia’s baseball program may have a weakness in terms of pitching, but that may be soon to change as the Bulldogs are going to land a young left-hander with a great deal of potential, and that was put on display as Justin Glover carried his nationally ranked Buford team to the third round of the GHSA playoffs in jaw dropping fashion.

Buford (25-3) was pitted against Bainbridge (21-7) and it was a true slaughter from the first pitch on, as the Wolves were hitting everything in sight, and Glover was truly magnificent on the mound, mixing the fastball and breaking pitches and the Bainbridge hitters were truly thrown off balance. The game was shortened to four innings due to a run rule as Buford prevailed in dominant fashion 15-0, and Glover threw a no-hitter with eight punchouts. His scintillating performance was his third no-hitter of the year and shows his great deal of promise and how he can help Georgia and head coach Scott Stricklin in the coming years.

“I think the playoffs bring out a different level in myself and (Buford) as a whole, as we know wee are the deepest, most talented team remaining (in the AAAA playoffs),” Glover told SicEmDawgs.com after the game. “We lock in by going out and playing like we can’t lose and let our talent take over and the results have been good so far.”

Stricklin was also in attendance to see Glover on display, and he was happy to see such a dominant showing from one of his top signees in the 2016 class. After the game, he said with a grin on his face, “I think (Glover) will be alright.” That could definitely be a true understatement as Georgia is currently in search of a replacement to ace Robert Tyler as he will likely depart for the MLB Draft this offseason, and Glover could fill those shoes as his arsenal is truly special.

In the second game of Buford’s doubleheader sweep, Glover showed he can get it done at the plate as well, hitting two long balls over the fence in Buford’s 16-2 series clinching victory. Glover, as a first baseman, has a versatile skill set and can help on both sides, as he explained how he used that to lead his team to the win. “Hitting two home runs capped off a great night. I’m trying to make the most out of the few at-bats I have remaining in my career,” Glover continued on to say. “Anything I can do to help the team offensively is huge.”

Georgia may have found a special talent as he could serve as a piece to the Bulldogs becoming an upper-echelon team in the SEC throughout the coming years. Glover went on to say how these pressure situations could help him at the next level. “It’s hard to compare high school situations with those that I will face in the SEC, but any experience is helpful in the growth process,” he said. “Learning how to handle adversity will be huge for my college career and beyond.”

Glover will take the mound next Tuesday against AAAA foe Cartersville at Buford High School. The Wolves will play for a spot in the state semifinals beginning at 4:30 p.m.
