Georgia junior outside linebacker Lorenzo Carter has been included on the 2016 Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List, according to an announcement Friday.

Players may be added or removed from the watch list for the nation’s most outstanding defensive player during the course of the season. The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) will announce a National Defensive Player of the Week from early September through mid November. If not already on the watch list, the honored player will be added at that time.

The FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club will announce five finalists for the Nagurski Trophy on November 17. The winner will be chosen from those five finalists who are part of the 2016 FWAA All-America Team. The annual Bronko Nagurski Trophy Banquet, presented by ACN, will be held on December 5 at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte.

Carter, a native of Norcross, Ga., appeared in all 13 games last season, including two starts, and finished with 19 tackles and two forced fumbles. In 2014, he was named the UGA Newcomer of the Year after tallying 41 stops, including 4.5 sacks and seven tackles for loss.

The Bulldogs open versus North Carolina in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta during the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game on September 3. ESPN will televise the matchup at 5:30 p.m.
