UGA introduces new Athletics Brand Identity

UGA 2013UGA, in partnership with Nike, has introduced a new brand identity across the entire athletics department.

This change affects the current football and basketball uniforms, but only slightly. A new font has been created for the numbers and letters called “Bulldog Bold.” The colors remain the same and the “G” logo remains untouched.

Georgia Bulldogs Pop-Tarts to go on sale next month

Georgia Pop-TartsThe Georgia Bulldogs will have their own Pop Tarts. UGA is one of five universities that have partnered with Kellogg’s for limited edition Pop-Tarts. The box and product will feature the Georgia “G” logo.

ESPN’s Darren Rovell broke the news yesterday. Kellogg’s is marketing the product as Limited Edition Printed Fun Pop-Tarts. Georgia’s will be called “Bulldog Berry” and appears to be frosted strawberry.

Four other schools will also be available: Michigan (Go Blue Strawberry), Arkansas (Razorback Red), Florida (Florida Gators Strawberry), and North Carolina (Tar Heel Berry).

2012 UGA Picture Day set for August 18

RussThe 2012 UGA Picture day will be held on Saturday, August 18 and will feature Mark Richt, interim mascot Russ, football players and other athletic teams.

Fans will need special ticket coupons to access the location for Mark Richt and Russ. 150 tickets for each will be distributed beginning at 8 a.m. from the East Campus ticket windows. The fans with tickets will access through Gate 4 and be directed to the entry for the Sky Suites North tower.

Auburn eliminates Georgia from 2012 SEC Baseball Tournament

2012 SEC Baseball TournamentGeorgia had the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, but couldn’t push in a run and fell to the Auburn Tigers 3-2. The loss eliminates the Dawgs from the 2012 SEC Baseball Tournament.

The Bulldogs will now have to wait until this weekend to find out if they are selected to play in the 2012 NCAA Baseball Tournament. It could go either way for Georgia, who finished the season 31-26 (14-15 SEC) but lost their last four ballgames.

Georgia falls to Vanderbilt 4-1 in 1st Round of SEC Baseball Tournament

2012 SEC Baseball TournamentThe no. 8 seed Georgia Bulldogs fell to the no. 5 seed Vanderbilt Commodores 4-1 in the first round of the 2012 SEC Baseball Tournament on Tuesday.

Georgia will now face Auburn in an elimination game today at 5:30 p.m. ET (CSS & ESPN3). The Tigers lost to 2-seed Florida 6-1 yesterday.

Georgia took a 2-1 lead on Vandy in the 2nd inning after Levi Hyams scored from third on a Colby May ground out.

2012 SEC Baseball Tournament Bracket

2012 SEC Baseball TournamentThe no. 8 seed Georgia Bulldogs will face the no. 5 seed Vanderbilt Commodores in the first round of the 2012 SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Alabama. The complete bracket was announced yesterday.

Georgia and Vanderbilt will play on Tuesday, May 22 following the completion of the Florida-Auburn game which begins at 5:30 p.m. ET.

If Georgia beats Vandy, they will face South Carolina on Wednesday, May 23.

Diamond Dawgs head to Alabama for final series of 2012 regular season

Georgia is currently 30-22 overall and 13-13 in the SEC. The Bulldogs need to take two-of-three from the Tide to finish above .500 in conference play and assure themselves of an NCAA Tournament berth.

Georgia BulldogsThe SEC announced the 2013 conference Spring sport schedules this afternoon which includes UGA baseball. Georgia opens SEC play at Texas A&M on March 15, 2013.

The 2012-13 schedule for baseball and other Spring sports is, like the 2012 football schedule, not based on any past or future scheduling patterns. Athletic directors from each of the 14 schools will meet to discuss future scheduling formats at a later date.

Georgia Bulldogs ranked No. 11 by Baseball America

Georgia BulldogsThe Georgia Bulldogs have been ranked No. 11 in the country in the 2012 Baseball America Preseason Top 25, the publication announced Tuesday.

The 2011 Diamond Dawgs finished with a 33-32 record and advanced to the NCAA Regionals. 22 letterman return from that team and join Georgia’s 2010-11 signing class.

Jonathan TaylorFormer Georgia outfielder Johnathan Taylor is nominated for the America’s Choice Honor for Courage in Sports, Intersport announced today. The America’s Choice Honor, wholly determined by fan voting, recognizes individuals that have overcome monumental challenges to achieve greatness in the world of sports. The winner will be announced on a one-hour “Courage in Sports” special airing at 5 p.m. ET Nov. 13 on CBS.

Each week for six weeks, two inspirational sports stories will be featured on the Courage in Sports Facebook page (www.facebook.com/CourageInSports). The top weekly vote-getter will proceed to the finals, which run Oct. 3-16.
