Davidson and UMass added to 2013 Charleston Classic

Charleston ClassicDavidson and UMass have been added to the 2013 Charleston Classic field, ESPN Regional Television announced today.

The eight-team tournament field, which also includes the Georgia Bulldogs, is now complete. Georgia was announced as a participant back in November.

UGA introduces new Athletics Brand Identity

UGA 2013UGA, in partnership with Nike, has introduced a new brand identity across the entire athletics department.

This change affects the current football and basketball uniforms, but only slightly. A new font has been created for the numbers and letters called “Bulldog Bold.” The colors remain the same and the “G” logo remains untouched.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope named AP SEC Player of the Year

Kentavious Caldwell-PopeGeorgia sophomore guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has been named the Associated Press SEC Player of the Year, the AP announced today. He was also a unanimous choice for All-SEC First Team.

Last week, Caldwell-Pope was named the SEC Player of the Year by the league’s coaches. He is the second Georgia Bulldog player to be named Player of the Year by the AP. Dominique Wilkins was awarded the distinction by both the AP and UPI in 1981.

Georgia falls to LSU 68-63 in 2013 SEC Tournament

Kentavious Caldwell-PopeGeorgia got off to a familiar slow start and fell to the LSU Tigers 68-63 in the 2nd round of the 2013 SEC Tournament in Nashville.

The loss likely ends the 2012-13 season for the Hoop Dawgs, who finish 15-17 overall and 9-9 in the SEC.

Georgia led only one time in the game at 2-0 and later fell behind by as many as 23 points. The Dawgs trailed 39-19 at halftime.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope named SEC Player of the Year

Kentavious Caldwell-PopeGeorgia sophomore guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has been named the SEC Player of the Year by the league’s coaches, the SEC announced today.

Caldwell-Pope (6-5, 205) leads the Bulldogs with 18 points per game, which also ranks second in the SEC. And, according to GeorgiaDogs.com, he is ranked among the SEC leaders in nine of 13 categories.

Georgia to face LSU in 2013 SEC Basketball Tournament

Georgia will face no. 9 LSU on Thursday, March 14 at 1:00 p.m. ET. The game will be televised by the SEC Network.

If Georgia defeats LSU, they will face the no. 1 Florida Gators on Friday at 1 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

SEC Storied “Miracle 3″ to debut on Sunday, March 3

Miracle 3ESPN Films’ next SEC “Storied” documentary, Miracle 3, will premiere on Sunday, March 3, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPNU. The film chronicles the events that ensued after a tornado hit the Georgia Dome during the 2008 SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament.

After the severe weather damaged the roof of the Dome, the tournament was relocated to Alexander Memorial Coliseum on the campus of Georgia Tech.

No. 1 Indiana beats Georgia 66-53 in Semifinals of Legends Classic

UGA BasketballThe no. 1 Indiana Hoosiers defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 66-53 in the semifinals of the 2012 Progressive Legends Classic Monday night. It was Georgia’s third loss in a row and drops them to 1-3 on the season.

Tonight Georgia will face UCLA in the consolation game (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPNU). The Bruins feature the recently reinstated Shabazz Muhammad and Lithonia, GA native Tony Parker, who spurned UGA to sign with UCLA last April.

Georgia to play in 2013 Charleston Classic

Charleston ClassicThe Georgia Bulldogs will play in the 2013 Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant basketball tournament, event organizers announced today.

The 2013 Charleston Classic, which will be held in November, includes eight teams and will feature a bracket format with 12 games over three days. Six of the eight teams are Clemson, Georgia, Nebraska, New Mexico, Temple, and UAB. The remaining two teams will be announced on a later date.

Hoop Dawgs fall to Southern Miss 62-60 in Overtime

UGA BasketballThe Georgia Bulldogs lost their second consecutive game of the Legends Classic, this one 62-60 in overtime at the hands of Southern Miss. The Dawgs are now 1-2 overall.

Georgia again got off to a slow start, falling behind 15-3 in the first eight minutes. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope helped keep the deficit around 12 until late in the half. A Sherrard Brantley three-point shot from half court at the buzzer closed the margin to 31-27 at half.

Frazier, Parker sign with Georgia Basketball; Langura to walk-on?

J.J. FrazierPoint guard J.J. Frazier and shooting guard Juwan Parker have signed national letters-of-intent to play for the Georgia Bulldogs, head coach Mark Fox has announced.

Frazier (5-9, 160) currently attends Faith Baptist Christian Academy in Ludowici, GA. Last season, he averaged 26.2 points, 4.9 assists, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.1 steals per game.

Georgia falls to Youngstown State 68-56 in Legends Classic

UGA BasketballGeorgia got off to an abysmal start Monday night and fell to the Youngstown State Penguins 68-56 in a regional game of the 2012 Legends Classic. The loss drops the Hoop Dawgs to 1-1 on the season.

The Penguins raced out to an 8-0 lead to start the game before Kentavious Caldwell-Pope hit finally a three-pointer just over four minutes into the game. Georgia then went scoreless for almost four more minutes and found themselves down 12-3.

Georgia beats Jacksonville 68-62 in 2012-13 season-opener

UGA BasketballGeorgia won its seventh consecutive season opener Friday night by beating the Jacksonville Dolphins 68-62 at Stegeman Coliseum.

Sophomore guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the Hoop Dawgs with 17 points. He also tallied six rebounds, five steals, one assist and one block.

Georgia Bulldogs Pop-Tarts to go on sale next month

Georgia Pop-TartsThe Georgia Bulldogs will have their own Pop Tarts. UGA is one of five universities that have partnered with Kellogg’s for limited edition Pop-Tarts. The box and product will feature the Georgia “G” logo.

ESPN’s Darren Rovell broke the news yesterday. Kellogg’s is marketing the product as Limited Edition Printed Fun Pop-Tarts. Georgia’s will be called “Bulldog Berry” and appears to be frosted strawberry.

Four other schools will also be available: Michigan (Go Blue Strawberry), Arkansas (Razorback Red), Florida (Florida Gators Strawberry), and North Carolina (Tar Heel Berry).

2013 Shooting Guard Juwan Parker commits to Georgia

Juwan Parker2013 shooting guard Juwan Parker of Tulsa, OK (Booker T. Washington) has verbally committed to Mark Fox and the Georgia Bulldogs.

Parker (6-5, 200) is rated by Rivals.com as a 3-star recruit, the no. 15 shooting guard, and no. 117 in the 2013 Rivals150. Scout.com also rates him 3-stars and the no. 30 shooting guard.

Georgia won Parker’s commitment over Memphis and Stanford.

The first regular-season game for the Dawgs will be at home against the Jacksonville Dolphins on Friday, November 9. Georgia then hosts Youngstown State (Nov. 12) and Southern Miss (Nov. 15) in the Athens Regional of the 2012 Legends Classic.

Georgia is tentatively set to open SEC play on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the Florida Gators. The Bulldogs will also host Florida on Jan. 23.

2012 UGA Picture Day set for August 18

RussThe 2012 UGA Picture day will be held on Saturday, August 18 and will feature Mark Richt, interim mascot Russ, football players and other athletic teams.

Fans will need special ticket coupons to access the location for Mark Richt and Russ. 150 tickets for each will be distributed beginning at 8 a.m. from the East Campus ticket windows. The fans with tickets will access through Gate 4 and be directed to the entry for the Sky Suites North tower.
