Black beats Red 23-17 in 2013 G-Day Game

2013 G-Day GameThe Black team defeated the Red team 23-17 in the 2013 Georgia Bulldogs G-Day game Saturday at Sanford Stadium before an announced crowd of 45,113.

Backup quarterback Hutson Mason led the Black team by completing 16-of-27 passes for 191 yards and a touchdown. Mason’s lone touchdown pass was completed to early enrollee Jonathan Rumph, a native of Cayce, SC.

2015 WR Christian Owens commits to UGA

Christian OwensWide receiver Christian Owens of Griffin, Ga. (Griffin H.S.) has verbally committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. He is the 1st commitment for UGA’s 2015 recruiting class.

Owens (6-5, 205) committed to the Bulldogs at today’s G-Day Spring Game. He also has a scholarship offer from Vanderbilt.

“Yes sir. He committed to Georgia today,” Griffin head coach Steve Devoursney told UGASports.com.

UGA introduces new Athletics Brand Identity

UGA 2013UGA, in partnership with Nike, has introduced a new brand identity across the entire athletics department.

This change affects the current football and basketball uniforms, but only slightly. A new font has been created for the numbers and letters called “Bulldog Bold.” The colors remain the same and the “G” logo remains untouched.

G-Day Spring GameThe 2013 Georgia Bulldogs G-Day game is set for Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m. ET at Sanford Stadium in Athens. Gates open at 11 a.m. and admission is free. The G-Day festivities will begin with the Letterman’s Flag Football Game at 11.

CSS (Comcast Sports Southeast) will broadcast G-Day live. CSS is only available on cable systems in the Southeast that are primarily owned by Charter and Comcast. It is not available on Dish Network or DirecTV.

Mike Bobo Receives New Three-Year Contract

Mike BoboUGA offensive coordinator Mike Bobo has received a new three-year contract, head coach Mark Richt announced today.

Bobo will earn $575,000 per year, which is a raise of $240,000 each year over his previous contract. This is the first time that Bobo has received a multi-year deal.

“Most coordinators in our league have three-year deals,” Richt said before practice today.

Georgia at Clemson to be televised by ABC at 8 p.m. ET

Memorial StadiumGeorgia’s 2013 season-opener at Clemson will be televised by ABC at 8 p.m. ET, ESPN announced today.

The game will likely be a match-up between two Top 10 teams. Georgia finished the 2012 season 12-2 and ranked 4th in the USA Today Coaches Poll, while Clemson finished 11-2 and ranked 9th.

Tickets for the game are now available and currently start at $242 each.

FB Zander Ogletree concludes UGA career for ‘medical reasons’

Zander OgletreeRising senior fullback Zander Ogletree has concluded his football career at the University of Georgia “due to medical reasons,” UGA announced today.

Ogletree, the twin brother of former UGA linebacker Alec Ogletree, will remain on scholarship but will not count towards the NCAA maximum of 85.

In his three seasons at UGA, Zander rushed seven times for 37 yards and a touchdown.

“I will be taking my talents to the University of Georgia,” Johnson said. “When I went down there, not only was it the facilities, but Coach (Mark) Richt and Coach (Chris) Wilson. Coach Wilson and I have a great relationship. That’s what sold me right there. It was pretty much where I wanted to be.”

JUCO DT Toby Johnson to announce college decision today

Toby JohnsonFour-star JUCO defensive tackle Toby Johnson is set to announce his college decision today at a 3 p.m. ET ceremony at his school.

Johnson will choose between Auburn, Georgia, Mississippi State, and Oklahoma. Most UGA recruiting pundits don’t feel that he will pick the Dawgs and that could be due to academic issues.

Further adding to the speculation that he won’t pick Georgia, Johnson told the AJC that he hasn’t talked to the Bulldogs “in a while.”

UGA board approves “Young Alumni Ticket Program”

Georgia BulldogsOn Tuesday, the UGA athletic board approved a new “Young Alumni Ticket Program” that will allow recent graduates (within the last 5 years) to obtain football season tickets.

The program starts in 2013 and the cost will be $40 per ticket. A donation to the Hartman Fund will not be required for the first year only. For the 2013 season, that will be a total of $240 since the Dawgs will have six home games.

Mark Richt gets Salary Increase and One-Year Contract Extension

Mark RichtAfter a 12-2 season and second straight SEC East title, UGA head coach Mark Richt has been rewarded with a salary increase and a contract extension, UGA has announced.

Richt has received a salary increase from $2.8 million to $3.2 million. He also received an additional year on the contract he signed last season, which now puts him at UGA through 2017.

Report: Todd Grantham to interview with New Orleans Saints on Thursday

Todd GranthamGeorgia Bulldogs defensive coordinator Todd Grantham is set to interview for the same position with the New Orleans Saints, according to NFL Network and NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport.

Rumors of the possible interview first surfaced yesterday, but then conflicting reports indicated that the Saints were set to hire Rob Ryan.

According to Rapoport, Grantham will fly to Louisiana tomorrow morning to interview. Here are his tweets regarding this development:
