Dawgs Lose Again; Felton’s Future at UGA to be Determined

Stegeman Coliseum

The Georgia Bulldogs lost 76-62 to the visiting Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday in their 2007-08 season finale. It was the final game at home for Bulldog seniors Sundiata Gaines and Dave Bliss. Bliss, who usually wears number 44, donned the number 3 jersey in honor of his fallen teammate Kevin Brophy.

Still feeling the heat is head coach Dennis Felton. After a tumultuous 2007-08 season which saw three players exit the program, Felton’s overall record at UGA now stands at 71-79. Even worse is his SEC record of 18 wins and 54 losses. Through January 19, Georgia was 11-5 overall and 2-1 in the SEC. But Georgia stumbled to the finish line losing 10 of their last 12 games.

Speculation about Felton’s future is running rampant. Some believe the decision has already been made and Dennis Felton will be fired after the SEC Tournament. Others believe UGA AD Damon Evans won’t make a rash decision and will retain Felton at least one more year. Evans is on record as saying he will evaluate Felton at the end of the season.

“I’ll say this as I’ve said, as always I’ll sit down with our head basketball coach at the end of the year,” Evans said. “We do everything in totality and until such time there’s nothing more to be said.”

Georgia, which finished last in the SEC East, will face Ole Miss at 9:45 p.m. in the 1st round of the SEC Tournament. If the Dawgs win, they would face Kentucky on Friday at 9:45 p.m.
