Dawgs Lose Late Lead Again, Fall to Mississippi State 72-69

SicEmDawgs.com

For the third straight game, the Georgia Bulldogs had a better team on the ropes most of the game. But again the Dawgs couldn’t hold the lead and fell to Mississippi State 72-69.

Georgia led Mississippi State (15-3, 3-0 SEC) by 13 with 4:16 remaining in the game, but the “other” Bulldogs went on a 14-0 run thanks to several UGA miscues and turnovers. A last second Dustin Ware three-pointer went in-and-out, and Georgia fell to 0-3 in the SEC (8-8 overall).

The fact that the Dawgs were even in the game against Kentucky, Ole Miss and Mississippi State speaks volumes about what new head coach Mark Fox has done for this team. Georgia plays with a purpose on offense, rebounds better and gets better looks at the basket.

However, Fox’s Dawgs haven’t been able to finish the drill after leading most of the game. Hopefully that is something that will improve down the line as Fox recruits more top players and improves the depth.

Trey Thompkins led the Dawgs with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Travis Leslie had a double-double (14 points and 15 rebounds) and Albert Jackson added 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

Georgia gets a week off before facing the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday in Athens. The Vols are ranked 9th in the AP and 10th in the ESPN/USA Today Poll. The game will be televised by FSN at 5:00 p.m. ET.
