Georgia, Boise State to open 2011 Season in Chick-fil-A College Kickoff
The Georgia Bulldogs and Boise State Broncos will open the 2011 season in the Chick-fil-A College Kickoff, it was announced today. The game will be played on September 3, 2011 and will be televised by either ABC or ESPN.
The annual kickoff game is held on the first weekend of the season at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Tickets are available from TicketNetwork.com.
The Bulldogs 2011 football schedule is now complete once again. Louisville was scheduled to visit Sanford Stadium on September 3, but that game has been canceled, as has the return game in Louisville in 2012.
Boise State was scheduled to play at Ole Miss on September 3, 2011, but they have canceled that game to face Georgia. It will be the second season in a row that Boise State has opened against a BCS team on a neutral field. The Broncos defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies 33-30 at FedEx Field in Landover, MD earlier this season.
This will be the second meeting between Georgia and Boise State. The Dawgs pummeled the Broncos 48-13 in 2005 in Athens.
“This is the type game that excites me, it will excite our players and I know it will excite our fans,” said Georgia coach Mark Richt. “We know it will put Georgia on a national stage in the season opener. It will make for a great off-season of preparation and anticipation to play a great team at a great facility in our home state.”
“We are excited to participate in the 2011 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta against Boise State,” said UGA Director of Athletics Greg McGarity. “We are very appreciative of the efforts made by ESPN and the Chick-fil-A Bowl to create this opportunity, and we look forward to competing against one of the nation¹s elite teams. We know our fans will certainly enjoy this experience in the Georgia Dome to start the 2011 season.”
