UGAFAUThe Georgia Bulldogs will host the Florida Atlantic Owls on September 15, 2012, the ABH has reported. This will be the first ever meeting between Georgia and FAU, a member of the Sun Belt Conference.

UGA will pay FAU a $1 million guarantee for the game, which is the largest amount the Bulldogs have ever paid an opponent.

The Owls are currently coached by Howard Schnellenberger. UGA head coach Mark Richt played for Schnellenberger at the University of Miami from 1979 to 1982.

Schnellenberger kicked off FAU’s football program in 2001 and has led the Owls to an overall record of 57-62. The Owls are 2-0 in bowl games, beating Memphis 44-27 in the 2007 New Orleans Bowl and Central Michigan 24-21 in the 2008 Motor City Bowl.

FAU is opening a new on-campus stadium next year, and they plan to trademark the phrase “Between the Palms“.

Georgia’s 2012 football schedule is now complete. Earlier this year the Dawgs scheduled non-conference games against Buffalo and Georgia Southern to go along with their yearly game against Georgia Tech.

As it stands now, Georgia should have an open date prior to their game in Jacksonville against the Florida gators. Both teams will be off before the 2011 game.
