Georgia started well but couldn’t keep pace as the no. 1 ranked Kentucky Wildcats cruised to a 57-44 win over the Dawgs in Athens. The loss drops Georgia to 10-10 overall and 1-5 in the SEC.

After a Gerald Robinson layup, the Bulldogs led the Wildcats 14-11 with 12:55 remaining in the first half. But then UK closed out the half by outscoring the Dawgs 27-12 to lead at halftime by 12.

Georgia never got any closer than 10 in the second half and trailed by 19 with 2:53 remaining. Three-point jumpers by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Dustin Ware in the final two minutes closed the gap to 13.

The Hoop Dawgs shot a putrid 34.5% from the field and only 27.8% from three-point range. And Georgia only attempted three free-throws, making one.

Dustin Ware led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Nemanja Djurisic added 10, Donte Williams 8 and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope 7 in the losing effort.

Georgia’s next game is Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the Auburn Tigers (12-7, 2-3 SEC). The game will be televised by the SEC Network at 8:00 p.m. ET.
