Georgia Bulldogs to play in 2012 Legends Classic in Brooklyn

SicEmDawgs.com

Legends ClassicThe Georgia Bulldogs will participate in the 2012 Legends Classic in Brooklyn, New York, according to a finalized contract obtained by Sicemdawgs.com.

Last month, we reported that the Hoop Dawgs were in negotiations to play in the tournament. Georgia’s appearance in the 2012 Legends Classic has now been finalized after Richard T. Giles, President of The Gazelle Group, Inc., signed the contract.

The Gazelle Group, the tournament organizer, hosts several yearly basketball tournaments including the CBE Classic which Georgia played in this season. The Bulldogs lost in the semifinals to California but beat Notre Dame in the consolation game.

The brand new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York will host the championship rounds on November 19-20, 2012. The arena, the future home of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, will seat 18,103 for basketball and is scheduled to open on September 28, 2012.

The format of the tournament resembles the CBE Classic. Georgia is classified as one of four “host” schools and will play two games in Athens against teams from the travel pool between Nov. 11 and Nov. 15, 2012. The four host schools will then advance to play in the semifinals and championship/consolation game at Barclays Center (Nov. 19-20; televised by ESPN networks).

Other participants in the 2012 Legends Classic were not identified. We will bring you that news as the teams are announced.
