Georgia falls to Vanderbilt 4-1 in 1st Round of SEC Baseball Tournament
The no. 8 seed Georgia Bulldogs fell to the no. 5 seed Vanderbilt Commodores 4-1 in the first round of the 2012 SEC Baseball Tournament on Tuesday.
Georgia will now face Auburn in an elimination game today at 5:30 p.m. ET (CSS & ESPN3). The Tigers lost to 2-seed Florida 6-1 yesterday.
Georgia took a 2-1 lead on Vandy in the 2nd inning after Levi Hyams scored from third on a Colby May ground out. Hyams had reached base earlier in the inning on a double.
But the Commodores took the lead in the bottom of the third with two runs off of sophomore left-hander Alex Wood. Vanderbilt added another run in the fifth off of Wood and scored their fourth run in the sixth off of senior Chase Hawkins.
The Diamond Dawgs are now 31-25 overall this season and really need a win today to keep their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
