UGA senior defensive tackle John Jenkins will miss the Capital One Bowl game against Nebraska, head coach Mark Richt announced yesterday.

“John Jenkins won’t be here,” said Richt. “It’s academic related, he will not be at the bowl, and that will be all I’ll say about that. … I think John Jenkins has been awesome for Georgia. I’m really proud of everything he’s accomplished for us. Just really want to wish him the very best. He’s been a blessing for our program.”

Kwame Geathers, a 6-6, 355-pound junior, will start in Jenkins’ absence. The Bulldogs will also look to Abry Jones (6-3, 308), who has missed the last five games due to an ankle injury. Michael Thornton and Ray Drew should also see some playing time.

John Jenkins signed with Georgia in February 2011 out of Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston, Mississippi. He was a four-star recruit and selected the Dawgs over Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and others.

In 13 games this season, Jenkins had 50 tackles (22 solo, 28 assisted), two tackles for loss, one sack, and one fumble recovery.
