Georgia sophomore guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has been named the SEC Player of the Year by the league’s coaches, the SEC announced today.

Caldwell-Pope (6-5, 205) leads the Bulldogs with 18 points per game, which also ranks second in the SEC. And, according to GeorgiaDogs.com, he is ranked among the SEC leaders in nine of 13 categories.

He is the first UGA player to be named Player of the Year by the league’s coaches and only second to receive a Player of the Year trophy. Dominique Wilkins was awarded the distinction by both the AP and UPI in 1981.

The SEC also announced today that UGA backup guard Charles Mann has been named to the Coaches’ SEC All-Freshman Team. Mann (6-4, 205) is third on the team with 6.5 points per game and leads in assists with 87.
