Georgia ready to complete road swing at Kentucky

Georgia Bulldogs

ATHENS, Ga. – The 17th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs continued preparations for their fourth straight road game, working out for two hours Wednesday.

Georgia coach Mark Richt said the team has practiced well this week.

“With Daylight Saving Time, it’s darker faster, and we’ve practiced under the lights the past two days,” Richt said. “The weather has been good, and it keeps the guys energized. We’ve gotten a lot of work in and today was another good day.”

Richt was asked about senior center David Andrews who played through an ankle injury last Saturday. He went through a full practice Wednesday.

“David did well; he’s a tough kid,” Richt said. “He’s not a guy that stays out long if he can help it. Linemen over the years are tougher than most, and he looked pretty good today. I’m sure day-by-day with treatment he’ll get better.”

Georgia aims to get freshman Sony Michel back in action too. The tailback has missed the last four games due to a shoulder injury. Michel saw action in the first four games, gaining 223 yards on only 23 carries for a 9.7 average. He has scored three rushing touchdowns plus had six catches for 74 yards and one touchdown.

“Sony is practicing well, and he’s better than a week ago,” Richt said. “I’ll ask him how do you feel physically? He’ll be honest because as a running back, he knows he has a chance to be hit by three of four guys on every play.”

Georgia (6-2, 4-2 SEC) faces the Kentucky Wildcats (5-4, 2-4 SEC) who will be celebrating Senior Day Saturday in their final home game. Kickoff is at noon, and the game will be televised by ESPN. Kentucky is 5-1 at home this year. After the UK contest, Georgia closes out the regular season with three in a row at Sanford Stadium.
