Georgia to compete in 2021 Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper

Legends Classic

PRINCETON, N.J./NEWARK, N.J. – Featuring national programs Georgia, Virginia, Providence and Northwestern, the 15th annual Legends Classic Presented by Old Trapper will take place at Prudential Center on November 22 and 23, 2021.

“We have always enjoyed participating in Rick Giles events going back to our early days at Marquette. No matter the venue they are always very high level,” head coach Tom Crean said. “We are really excited to take our Georgia program to Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper. The competition will be fierce, and the energy will be high. We are looking forward to Georgia Bulldog fans joining us from all over the country.”

This will be Georgia’s second appearance in the Legends Classic. In 2012, the Bulldogs lost to No. 1 Indiana, ironically then coached by Tom Crean, 66-53, and then to No. 11 UCLA, 60-56.

Match-ups, ESPN networks, game times and ticket information for the Legends Classic Presented by Old Trapper will be announced at a later date.

Georgia: Crean enters his fourth season after improving the Bulldogs’ record in each of his first three seasons. Georgia has scored at its highest pace in nearly two decades during each of the past two seasons, with Anthony Edwards, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and a Rookie of the Year Finalist, leading the way in 2019-20.

Virginia: In Tony Bennett’s 12th season at the helm, the Cavaliers won the ACC regular season title for the third time in the past four years, after winning the National Championship in 2019.

Providence: Ed Cooley, who has taken the Friars to five NCAA Tournaments in the past eight years, returns three of his top four scorers.

Northwestern: Chris Collins returns almost his entire roster for his ninth season with the Wildcats, who made the NCAA Tournament for the first time in their history after their Legends Classic appearance in 2016.

In the 2020 Roman Legends Classic Presented by Old Trapper, the event included six teams in a Showcase format. Featuring four teams (USC, UConn, Florida and BYU) that eventually made it to the NCAA Tournament, the event also featured emerging young talent — the Mobley brothers at USC; Tre Mann, Noah Locke and Keyontae Johnson at Florida; UConn’s James Bouknight and St. John’s Julian Champagnie.
